MESH is about our commitment to one another and more-than-human life; how that commitment can be woven, frayed, and transformed.
Submissions for MESH are currently open. You’re invited to send in a piece* or organise a gathering**. In the end, the zine will double as a journal and event archive. It will be free to read online via this site and any profits from the sale of print copies will be donated to SOS MEDITERRANEE.
*Piece
Poems, (very) short stories, essays, song lyrics, paintings, photos, scanned flower pressings, newspaper clippings, maps, family trees, real or imaginary political constitutions, recipes, digital art, etc.
**Gathering
Talk to someone, plan an art/writing workshop, go for a walk, volunteer, play music together, plant something, etc. If you want to include it in the MESH event archive, send in a text or image-based reflection afterwards.
Guidelines
- Deadline is 30 September 2026, but please send your submission in as early as you can!
- Our zines are informal and open to all. All submissions will be published as long as they fit the MESH theme and GULLS Commune ethos.
- No minimum length (can be one word if you want) but maximum three A5 pages so there’s enough room for everyone.
- Text submissions can be in any language, not necessarily english. You can also send in a bilingual submission—just be mindful of the above length limit (i.e. with the translation it should not exceed three A5 pages).
- Email as a high-quality attachment or via WeTransfer to gullscommune@gmail.com with the title and your full name as they’ll appear in the zine.
Timeline
In October, the first draft of the zine will be designed then sent to all contributors for proofreading. Hopefully by December, MESH will be published in print and online. A launch event will be organised in January 2027 in Paris and possibly other places.
Help Make MESH
Email gullscommune@gmail.com with your name and phone number if you’d like to help with person-to-person and digial outreach, organising submissions, planning the launch event(s), fundraising for production expenses, etc. You’ll be added to a Whatsapp groupchat where we can decide what needs to be done and how we’d like to work together. If at any stage you feel like you don’t have the time/energy anymore, you can communicate that to the group and we’ll make it work. The groupchat will be deleted after the MESH launch events are finished in January 2027.
GULLS Commune zines are published in print and online. They’re free to read online via gullscommune.com and any profits from the sale of print copies are donated to charity. The point of them is just to remind us to make things, share ourselves with others, and get together when we can.
